What happens if my Net Mining Output is zero or negative?

Overview

Bitcoin mining results can change over time. In some periods, the Gross Mining Output associated with your contracted hashrate may not be enough to cover the applicable electricity costs, service fees, mining pool fees, and other operational charges.

When that happens, your Net Mining Output is recorded as zero – not as a negative amount.

How Net Mining Output is calculated

Ridgeline calculates Net Mining Output by starting with the Gross Mining Output associated with your contracted hashrate and subtracting the applicable costs and fees.

In simple terms:

Gross Mining Output − applicable costs and fees = Net Mining Output

If the costs and fees equal or exceed the Gross Mining Output for a calculation period, the result is zero.

Can my balance become negative?

No. Net Mining Output cannot be less than zero.

You will not receive a Bitcoin payout for a period in which Net Mining Output is zero, but your dashboard will not show a negative Net Mining Output balance.

Why might Net Mining Output reach zero?

Several factors can affect mining output and operating costs, including:

  • Changes in Bitcoin network difficulty

  • Increases in total network hashrate

  • Block reward adjustments

  • Mining pool performance and fees

  • Downtime or operational curtailment

  • Electricity costs and other operating expenses

These conditions can change throughout your contract term and may reduce the amount of Bitcoin produced by the same amount of hashrate.

Does my contract stop if Net Mining Output is zero?

No. Your contract may continue operating even during periods when Net Mining Output is zero.

If conditions improve, Net Mining Output may become positive again and eligible payouts will resume automatically once the applicable payout threshold is met.

Ridgeline may also reduce, suspend, curtail, or terminate mining operations in the circumstances described in your Hashrate Contract, including when mining becomes uneconomical or Gross Mining Output is insufficient to cover operating costs.

Will I owe Ridgeline money?

A zero Net Mining Output calculation does not create a separate payment you must make to Ridgeline for that calculation period. Instead, the Net Mining Output for that period is recorded as zero.

What will I see in my dashboard?

Your dashboard will show the mining activity and calculations associated with your contract, including:

  • Gross Mining Output

  • Applicable costs and fees

  • Net Mining Output

  • Completed payouts

This allows you to see how the final calculation was determined, even when Net Mining Output is zero.

The bottom line

If applicable costs and fees equal or exceed the Gross Mining Output associated with your contract, your Net Mining Output will be zero.

You will not receive a payout for that calculation period, but Net Mining Output will not be recorded as a negative amount. If conditions improve and Net Mining Output becomes positive again, payouts can resume automatically under your normal payout settings.
